At the end of 2008 Ellesmere College received the generous donation of a Beale Baby Grand by Gwynn and Pauline Thompson and their family.
Grant and Penny Clausen have donated the wonderful cover for the baby grand. The cover was manufactured by Clausen’s Canvas & PVC and was specially designed with the college emblem on top and is made of the college’s colours.
It all started when Mr. Collins came up with a way for the community to help the school buy a new piano. The idea was that members of the public would buy a key.
Gwynn Thompson served on the college’s board of trustees for 10 years and his and Pauline’s three children were all educated at the college. They thought it would be a fitting way to give something back to the college.
The piano will be used for NCEA assessments, concerts, assemblies, and just general performance work.
