It is with great sorrow that we
were informed of the passing away of Desmond Kelly, a founding staff member of
Ellesmere
College.
Des had a long and
distinguished career in a range of education-related roles, prior to his
retirement in 2008, including being Head of Technology at
Ellesmere
College
from the beginning of 1981 to December 2008.
Many staff would like to
attend the funeral to be held on Friday 26 March. As the College cannot legally close for such
an event, I am asking, with the approval of the Board Chairperson Mark Ridden,
that parents give their approval for students from Years 7-10 to be kept at
home for the day. As many students in
Years 11-13 would have been taught by Des they may wish to attend the funeral. The College will remain open, with appropriate
supervision provided for students attending school. We do not expect to be able to run the normal
teaching programme.
College buses will run as
normal on Friday. However the Canteen
will be closed.
Clearly the College Board and
Staff would deeply appreciate your understanding and support in these unique
circumstances. Please complete the
form sent home with students on Wednesday 24 March to be returned to Form Teachers by Thursday 25 March.
