Agriculture

Agriculture is offered from year 9-13 at Ellesmere College. A highlight of the year for senior students is the South Island Agricultural Field Days at Lincoln. Here is a students report from the 2009 Field Days.

Field Days 2009

Wednesday 25th March, what a day! It was the first day of the South Island Agricultural Field Days. The year 11, 12 and 13 Agriculture classes gathered in the bus bay to get on the bus to travel to Lincoln for a day of fun and FREE stuff. We got off the bus only to say “is that it?” but then discovering that this place was huge! We were let loose and in search of as much free stuff as possible. The ‘Fonterra’ tent, what a surprise, free milk! In the ‘RX Plastics’ tent, another surprise, free plastic! We were given an insight in the new gismos and gadgets of the Agricultural world.

We now have a better understanding of what is quality and what is not, also that there is a machine out there to do almost every job! After a rather scorching day, we all clambered back on the bus surrounded by bags of freebies; everything from pens to pamphlets to beef jerky and even dog roll. Then there’s those with bottles of instant hand sanitizer that had been ripped off by boot polish salesmen but that’s another story.
