A warm welcome to Ellesmere College.
We are a friendly, family focused school, with a caring, inclusive culture. Our aim is to have engaged students who are enabled to excel.
Central to this endeavour is the strong learning partnership we enjoy between students, parents, Whanau and staff. We have great support from our community that we are proud to be part of.
Learning innovation at the College is strengthened by our core of strong traditional values: respect, integrity, success and empathy. These support high academic achievement and promote personal excellence. Our courses develop the skills required by our community - local, national and international - giving our students the foundation for future success in this rapidly changing world.
Thirty kilometres from Christchurch, we benefit from easy access to urban facilities and from the community strengths of our rural environment. We have close links with primary and tertiary organisations, allowing positive transitions through all stages of education. Our facilities are an integral part of community life.
Our October, 2014 ERO Report paints an accurate picture:
‘Ellesmere College places a high value on its family like culture and on the values and practices that help students to engage and excel, The College takes advantage of its semi-rural location to provide a wide range of opportunities and activities that extend student learning, enjoyment and vocational interests.’
‘……high expectations for achievement and learning, and value the involvements and contributions of students, staff, parents and whānau. There are positive and collaborative relationships across the school and strong support for and from the community’.
‘An inclusive culture, strong pastoral care and a history of good community relationships contribute to a settled and supportive learning environment’
